Redbourn – A pretty and cute Hertfordshire village
With a population of around 6000, Redbourn is a cute and pretty village with plenty of character, a warm community spirit and excellent local amenities.
Redbourn has a wonderful Common with beautiful open spaces on which cricket has been played since around 1666! A fantastic place for dog walking, picnics and family fun.
Although there is no Mainline Railway Station in the village, links to London can be accessed via Harpenden, which is only 3 miles away or St Albans 4 miles and in Hemel Hempstead 5 miles, with train links to London St Pancras or Euston. The M1 Motorway is also within a 2 mile drive.
There are many pubs and shops, a post office, as well as a Recreation Centre providing bowls, badminton, football, exercise classes a gym and much more! Redbourn Golf Club and Driving Range (located roughly 1 mile away from the village) is one of the most popular in Hertfordshire.
The village has good local schools with the junior school achieving an “Outstanding “ grade in the last Ofsted Inspection report. Secondary education can be found close by in Harpenden and St Albans where many of the local children transfer.
Redbournbury Mill and Museum is located just south of Redbourn where the recently restored water mill produces flour from locally grown wheat. Bread is made on the premises with organic flour and is the best bread I have ever tasted! Take a walk down on a Saturday morning when you can purchase a range of freshly baked speciality breads, teacakes, scones and some flour for your own baking!
There are many foot and cycle paths around this area for those who enjoy getting out for a good walk or cycle in the fresh air. The Nicky Line, which is the former railway line linking Harpenden, Redbourn to Hemel Hempstead runs for approximately 7 miles and a popular route for cyclist, runners and walkers alike.
Redbourn is the home of the Hertfordshire County Show which is an annual event attracting many thousands every year.
Redbourn recently celebrated its 900th anniversary of St Mary’s Church, the village held a festival which lasted 6 months and was a fantastic event.
If you are in search of a beautiful village location, within a peaceful countryside setting, a vibrant and warm community, easy access to London and afar by train, the M25 and the M1, take a look at Redbourn and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised!
